A building collapse in the Jegede Olunloyo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, claimed the lives of 10 people and left seven others injured early Thursday morning, officials have confirmed.
According to the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the incident occurred at 2 a.m. in Ona Ara Local Government Area. Emergency responders, alerted by a distress call, arrived on the scene to find multiple casualties amidst the debris.
“The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distress call at around 2 a.m., and we have since recovered 10 bodies, while seven individuals were rescued alive,” the agency’s statement read.
Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Fire Services, confirmed ongoing rescue efforts. “Three victims had already been recovered by the time we arrived, and our team pulled out four more,” he stated.
