Wigwe University, located in Isiokpo, Rivers State, is set to open in September 2024 and is offering 100 scholarships for outstanding students. This initiative honors the vision of the late Dr. Herbert Wigwe, aiming to create opportunities for future leaders.
The merit-based scholarships target students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, leadership skills, and a commitment to learning. By easing the financial burden of higher education, the university hopes to foster an environment where scholars can thrive and contribute positively to society.
Professor Marwan AI-Akaidi, the Acting Vice Chancellor, emphasized the university’s dedication to providing quality education to all students, regardless of their financial situation. He stated, “By investing in our students, we are shaping the future of our institution and nurturing a generation of fearless leaders.”
To qualify for the scholarships, applicants must select Wigwe University as their first choice and achieve a minimum score of 170 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Candidates must also upload their results to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal. Those awaiting O’level results should upload them as soon as they are available. Students who did not initially choose Wigwe University can still apply if they change their first choice to Wigwe University before the deadline.
Applications for the scholarships can be submitted through the Wigwe University portal, with the deadline set for August 26, 2024. Successful candidates will be notified by the first week of September 2024.
Wigwe University aims to provide a world-class education with modern facilities and a dedicated faculty.
