A tragic accident along Saminaka Road in Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has claimed the lives of 15 children.

The incident occurred around 1 pm on Sunday when a J5 bus, carrying 63 children en route to celebrate Eld El Maulud, collided with an oncoming articulated vehicle.

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander Kabiru Nadabo confirmed that the bus driver lost control due to overspeeding, leading to the fatal crash. Fifteen children were killed on the spot, and 48 others sustained various injuries.

Nadabo stressed the critical need for road safety. “This accident highlights the dangers of reckless driving. We urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.”

An eyewitness recounted the chaos: “I saw the bus swerving uncontrollably before hitting the articulated vehicle. It was a horrific sight, and my heart goes out to the victims’ families.”

The injured were taken to Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka, while the deceased were transported to Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital. An investigation into the crash has been launched by the FRSC.

Nadabo reiterated the importance of road safety, especially during festive periods. “We must learn from this tragedy and work towards preventing such incidents in the future,” he said.
