Nineteen people tragically lost their lives, and 11 others were injured in a fatal accident in the Kwana Macji area of Pankshin Local Government, Plateau State.
The victims were returning to Kano State after attending a wedding in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, when their vehicle crashed and caught fire.
John Dasar, Chairman of the Pankshin LGA Emergency Management Committee, revealed that the accident occurred on Saturday. While rescue efforts were underway, the vehicle suddenly ignited, trapping the victims inside.
“The victims came from Kano for a wedding in Barkin Ladi and were returning home through the Gindiri-Bauchi route when the accident happened.
Nineteen people were burnt beyond recognition, and only the driver and a few others managed to survive,” Dasar said.
The survivors were immediately rushed to Pankshin General Hospital for treatment. Pankshin Local Government Chairman Felix Gonung, accompanied by the Health Councillor Lengyang Tali, local police officers, and Federal Road Safety Corps personnel, visited the victims.
Arrangements were made to transfer the critically injured to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for specialized care, while those with minor injuries were treated and transported back to Kano State.
This devastating incident has left the Kwana Macji community in mourning, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
