The year 2025 promises growth and opportunity for Nigeria’s aviation sector, especially for domestic airlines, as international aircraft leasing companies have invited the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, along with Nigerian airline operators, to a pivotal meeting scheduled for January. The agenda will focus on strategies for supporting and financing local carriers.
During the 10th-anniversary celebration of Air Peace in Lagos, Keyamo announced the upcoming meeting, emphasizing how this collaboration could elevate Nigeria’s profile in global aviation.
He also praised Air Peace for its remarkable growth and resilience in a challenging industry, affirming the federal government’s continued support. According to Keyamo, Air Peace has set a standard for the nation’s aviation sector, demonstrating that Nigerian carriers can not only survive but thrive in a competitive market.
“Air Peace flies the Nigerian flag high, underscoring its role in strengthening the country’s presence on the world stage,” he stated. Keyamo applauded the airline’s founder and CEO, Dr. Allen Onyema, for his visionary leadership, attributing Air Peace’s achievements to his strategic guidance. He encouraged other Nigerian airlines to adopt similar long-term planning, citing Air Peace as a model for sustainable growth in aviation.
Keyamo also discussed broader developments in Nigeria’s aviation industry, referencing studies showing that the country accounts for 80% of Africa’s domestic air travel, with the Lagos–Abuja route being the continent’s busiest. He highlighted that Air Peace is well-positioned to meet this rising demand, setting industry standards through its ongoing expansion and high-quality service.
He assured industry stakeholders of the government’s dedication to reforms that support local carriers, emphasizing the federal government’s commitment to creating a thriving environment for Nigeria’s aviation sector. Keyamo encouraged Nigerian airlines to embrace sustainable practices and committed to fostering a supportive framework that enables the aviation industry to succeed.
