Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested 27-year-old Oluchi Nzemechi from Uzoagba in Ikeduru LGA, Imo State, for the alleged murder of her husband, 31-year-old Kelechi Nzemechi.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, Oluchi admitted to the crime during interrogation. She confessed that her lover had involved her in internet fraud, commonly known as ‘yahoo yahoo’. On June 2, a heated argument erupted between Oluchi and Kelechi over the distribution of an alleged 250 million Rupiah they had fraudulently acquired from a victim in Indonesia. In a fit of rage, Oluchi used a kitchen knife to stab Kelechi in the upper part of his body, leading to his death.

In a bid to mislead investigators, Oluchi reportedly wrote a note that read, “You think you can eat my money and go free. I am baba for the boys. I am coming for your wife and your child including your family,” and placed it beside Kelechi’s lifeless body before fleeing the scene.

Further revelations indicated that Oluchi had been living with Kelechi since 2019 and they have a child together. ASP Okoye mentioned that efforts are underway to recover the fraudulently obtained 250 million Rupiah for possible restitution to the rightful owner.

Currently, Oluchi is being held and investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department. Authorities have confirmed that she will be formally charged and arraigned in court.
