Olalekan Ogunmakin, a 61-year-old LAWMAN officer, was killed when tires from a moving truck crushed him in Lagos State’s Alaka region, while on duty.
On Monday, May 27, Ogunmakin was on his way to a place in the state when the truck’s tires collided with him.
People at the accident scene raced towards him in an attempt to save him and transport him to a hospital.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymous claimed the truck driver did not wait to determine Ogunmakin’s condition and that when the LAWMA official was transported to the hospital, a doctor on duty confirmed his dead.
According to the source, “The man (Ogunmakin) was attached to the LAWMA office.” A high-speed truck collided with him as he was driving.
The truck driver did not wait; some stated he knew what occurred, but others suggested he may not have known because the vehicle was still rolling on other tires.
“When people in the area rushed him to hospital, they confirmed that he died due to the injuries he sustained from the accident.”
When reached, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, verified that Ogunmakin was taken to Randle Hospital in the state’s Surulere region after the accident.
He said that the doctor on duty verified his death and that attempts were on to apprehend the fleeing truck driver.
Hundeyin stated, “The event occurred on May 27, 2024, about 10.24 p.m., at Alaka in the National Stadium.
It included an unknown vehicle operated by a driver, and our inquiry indicated that two tires of an unknown truck broke out unexpectedly and collided with a 61-year-old man, Olalekan Ogunmakin, who worked at the LAWMA office in Ijora.
“The man suffered severe injuries and was brought to Randle Hospital in Surulere, Lagos, for treatment.
He died, as verified by the medics on duty. The corpse was taken to the same hospital for preservation, and an investigation is underway to capture the truck driver.”
