In a significant move, Governor Mutfwang has granted state pardons to five inmates of the State Correctional Service, recognising their remarkable improvements in behavior and conduct.
This gesture is part of a broader message urging Nigerians to stay hopeful and committed to building a united and peaceful nation.
During a state broadcast commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, Governor Mutfwang encouraged citizens to embrace peace, unity, and compassion despite the numerous challenges the country faces. He emphasized the importance of collective hope and the resolve to create a nation that all Nigerians can take pride in.
“October 1st holds profound significance for every Nigerian,” Governor Mutfwang stated. “It serves as a reminder of our shared destiny and the resilient spirit that has kept us together through trials and triumphs. We owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who fought for our independence and to the founding fathers whose vision laid the foundation for a united Nigeria.”
He acknowledged the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in a free and prosperous nation that continue to inspire the populace. Reflecting on the past 64 years, he noted that Nigeria’s journey has been marked by both achievements and challenges, with unity tested by political, economic, and social upheavals.
“We have endured civil conflicts, regional tensions, economic recessions, and political instability. Yet, despite these trials, Nigeria remains an indivisible nation, bound by our collective hope for a better future and an understanding that our strength lies in our diversity,” the Governor remarked.
This year’s Independence celebration coincides with a time of economic hardship, insecurity, and rising criminal activities, which have caused considerable distress across the nation. Governor Mutfwang expressed solidarity with the citizens of Plateau State and all Nigerians, assuring them that he shares in their struggles.
“I stand with you in these trying times and am committed to finding lasting solutions to bring relief,” he stated. “We are currently implementing policies and programs in key sectors such as agriculture, transportation, education, healthcare, and economic development to alleviate the impact of the economic downturn. While these solutions may take time, I ask for your patience and understanding as we work to cushion the effects of this crisis. The road to recovery is challenging, but together, we will prevail.”
The Governor reiterated his dedication to transforming Plateau State, emphasizing the need to rebuild foundations that have been gradually eroded and to chart a new way forward.
“We are steadfast in our commitment to restoring security and peace throughout our state. Our security agencies are working tirelessly, and progress is being made in the fight against insecurity. Your safety and well-being remain our top priority, and I ask for your continued cooperation as we tackle these issues head-on. Let us remain hopeful and united in our pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity for Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole. Together, we shall emerge stronger!”
