An Iveco truck carrying petrol exploded along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 6:57 a.m. near Ago Igbala, in the Ibafo area of the highway. The truck, which did not have a registration number, crashed and subsequently caused a traffic jam extending from the scene to the Arepo area on the Lagos-bound section of the expressway.

Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, confirmed the incident.
She attributed the crash to reckless driving and loss of control by the tanker driver.
Okpe stated, “The crash occurred at 06:57 a.m. this morning on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around Ago Igbala, Ibafo area of Ogun State.
A total of 05 persons were involved, all male adults, and fortunately no deaths were recorded nor were there any injuries. The vehicle involved was an Iveco truck with no registration number on it.
The suspected cause of the lone crash was speed and the vehicle lost control and crashed. The tanker was loaded with fuel and no casualties were recorded.”
She added that rescue operations were underway, but traffic management teams were still working to clear the congestion caused by the crash.
