The Imo State Police Command has released a statement in reaction to a widely shared video on social media showing a police officer extorting money from drivers on the Owerri-Onitsha expressway.
Following the required orderly room procedures, it has been recommended that Inspector Isong Osudueh of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Owerri, be demoted for his dishonorable and unprofessional behavior. Meanwhile, the supervising officer has been questioned officially for inadequate supervision.
The disciplinary measures implemented against the incompetent officer demonstrate the Command’s steadfast dedication to upholding the greatest standards of professionalism, openness, and integrity among its staff members while efficiently carrying out its legal obligations and establishing the confidence of the public.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, strongly denounces the embarrassing incident but also affirms that the Command, which is under his command, will not tolerate any misconduct or extortion by its employees. He also issues a warning that any supervisory officer who neglects to perform his oversight responsibilities will face harsh consequences.
In light of this, the CP implores the State’s well-meaning citizens to keep providing the Police and other security agencies with up-to-date, useful information as they maintain their steadfast dedication to safeguarding public safety.
