President Bola Tinubu paid a visit to the Abuja Metro Station on Wednesday to officiate the commencement of commercial operations for the Abuja Light Rail.
The event was organized by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, as part of the activities marking President Tinubu’s first anniversary in office.
During the ceremony, President Tinubu praised Minister Nyesom Wike for the efficient completion of the project. The FCT Minister had previously announced that free train rides would be offered for two months to alleviate the commuting challenges faced by residents of the FCT.
Acknowledging the difficulties faced by residents in navigating the city, Minister Wike expressed his administration’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and providing a modern and efficient transportation system.
The newly launched rail project is expected to significantly enhance Abuja’s transportation infrastructure, relieving traffic congestion and providing a reliable means of transit for the city’s residents.
President Tinubu, in his address at the inauguration of the Abuja metro rail, granted approval for the free rides to continue until the end of the year, encouraging the FCT Minister and his team to extend the gesture.
This extension would give the people hope and a reason to celebrate, as they would not be charged for their commute.
The Abuja Metro Station was originally commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.
