Some aggrieved staff of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intensified their cries and yearning for promotion in accordance with the agency’s guiding principles.
The officers recruited in 2005 claimed those employed after them are now their seniors in rank.
They alleged that they are still Assistant Superindent of Narcotic 1 instead of Superintendent of Narcotic and Chief Superindent Narcotics despite using 19 years in service.
The aggrieved officers said they had written so many letters to the executive chairman of NDLEA, Buba Marwa because they felt they were being unlawfully shortchanged in the scheme of things within the agency.
One of them explained that NDLEA Conditions of Service 2019, clearly and evidently stated that Compass 03-06 were eligible for promotion within the minimum period of two years, while Compass 07-14 were eligible for promotion within the minimum of three years, yet many of them had not been promoted.
“After a long stagnation when we were finally harmonised and promoted, it became lopsided. We the entire course 13/2005 officers of Bello Lafiaji last recruitment are appealing to the present chairman, Marwa for our effective date to be corrected. It will spur us more confidence to do our work because as it is now, our juniors are currently our seniors.
“Course 13/2005 have been denied promotion for over 6 years and the chairman, Marwa is allowing this impunity under his watch to have its way. We are calling the attention of the Minister of Justice, and the Senate to urge Marwa to look in amending our effective date and placement accordingly.
“Our effective date should please be corrected because as it is, we have totally be neglected sir. Our effective date to be corrected because as it is we have totally be neglected sir. Complaints of NA /13/2005 are six years denial of promotion and failure in addressing effective date of promotion. These are the only two major problem that need quick intervention.”
Another aggrieved member said those with lower entry qualifications were given more preference over those with higher qualifications.
“We were recruited in 2005, so it’s 19 years in service. We are begging for those two point to be addressed. We are still Assistant superindent of Narcotic 1 while we are supposed to Superintendent of Narcotic and Chief Superintendent Narcotics respectively. This is what the refusal of correcting our effective date has caused us.
“NA/13/2005, that is the last course recruited by Bello Lafiaji for chairman. We the entire NA/13/2005 Bello Lafiaji recruited officers have been sidelined, robbed of our promotion and proper placements and denial of accurate effective date.
“Sir, promotion is every 3 years and we are 19 years in service. We were recruited from level 05 now for 19yrs, we were just promoted for only 4 times instead of 6 and 7 times. External body should be set to look into it the agency has failed us tasking us for arrest and seizure on the other hand denying us our entitlement.”
