On Saturday, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, visited the homes of soldiers who lost their lives in Aba during the sit-at-home protest declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra. The governor pledged to uncover and hold accountable anyone involved in the killings.
During his visit to the Headquarters of the 144 battalion of the Nigerian Army in Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Otti expressed his condolences. He began by offering sympathy to the Nigerian Army, the Brigade Commander, and especially the families of the five fallen heroes. Otti condemned the killings, attributing them to criminals aiming to disrupt the state, describing the situation as “very sad.”
He went on to say that as a government they’ll consistently denounce the heinous and irresponsible act perpetrated by individuals who have ill intentions for society.
Otti further stated that it is truly heartbreaking, but since the sad incident has occurred, they must move forward. However, they cannot move forward without holding those accountable for this.
He also announced that the deceased children would receive automatic scholarships up to university level. He assured that he would take steps to formalize the scholarship through the state House of Assembly to ensure that future governments in the state would continue to support this initiative.
The Brigade commander of 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier General Olusola Diya, emphasized their unwavering commitment to capturing those responsible for the terrible incident. He revealed that they have been actively collecting intelligence to apprehend anyone linked to the killings, whether directly or indirectly.
General Diya also mentioned that during the unfortunate attack, two Army vehicles were set on fire, weapons were stolen, and tragically, five personnel lost their lives.
