ASUU’s decision to join the nationwide strike organized by the NLC and TUC has sparked mixed reactions on social media platforms. While some Nigerians applaud the move as a necessary step to pressure the government into meeting the demands for a higher minimum wage, others express concerns about the potential impact on students’ education and the overall academic calendar.

On Twitter, hashtags such as #ASUUstrike and #NLCstrike are trending, with users sharing their thoughts and opinions on the matter. Some users commend ASUU for standing in solidarity with other labor unions, emphasizing the importance of unity in demanding better working conditions and fair wages. Others, however, express frustration over the recurrent disruptions to academic activities caused by strikes in the country, calling for a more sustainable solution to address the grievances of workers while minimizing the impact on students’ education.

This collective action has been initiated in response to the government’s inability to meet the unions’ demand for an increase in the minimum wage. Emmanuel Osodeke, President of ASUU, has issued a directive urging lecturers across the country to stand in solidarity with the congress and join the strike.

The NLC initiated this indefinite strike following the government’s failure to finalize negotiations on the minimum wage and to reverse the recent hike in electricity tariffs. ASUU members are hereby encouraged to fully engage in this protest as an affiliate member of the congress.
