Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has disclosed that she ended her marriage because she found herself in a situation where she was financially supporting her ex-husband, Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, more than he was contributing.

Abounce, who is the son of the late actress Bukky Ajayi, tied the knot with Yvonne in a modest yet elegant wedding ceremony in Lagos back in February 2018.

The pair’s journey began in 2004 when they first encountered each other on the set of Tade Ogidan’s celebrated drama series, ‘Behind the Siege’. Over the years, their relationship blossomed, culminating in a marriage ceremony that took place in February 2018, marked by simplicity and elegance.

Tragically, their marital bliss was short-lived. Yvonne revealed in March 2019 that their union had dissolved merely three months after the joyous arrival of their son.

In a revealing glimpse into her thoughts, shared in a teaser for an upcoming episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, the ‘Okafor Law’ actress expressed a sense

Yvonne Jegede also mentioned that her ex-husband’s tendency to interpret every jest as a sign of disrespect due to their age gap contributed to the breakdown of their marriage.

During the podcast, she said: “He [my ex-husband] is eight years older than me. But the moment we got married, if I tell am say, ‘You dey crease, ‘ he would say I’m disrespecting him. I would if it was the same person I got married to.

But that wasn’t the main reason I left the marriage. Let me just say the fact, I was bringing more of the money. I’m taking care of my son like nobody exist around me. It’s not easy. I would have gone for money instead of love.”

In 2022, Yvonne disclosed that her brief marriage and subsequent divorce were part of her life’s journey, emphasizing that she values the lessons learned from the experience. Additionally, she shared that she independently traveled to the United States to give birth to their child.

She further stated “When it was time to put his name, I said that as long as I carried all the burden, emotionally, financially and otherwise, I would put my surname with his surname.

“So I put a compound name, Jegede-Fawole. I told him I would remove Fawole if he didn’t accept that he was his child. When he came and took a picture with the baby, the bloggers finally left me alone because he had accepted that it was his child”

Since that day, she mentioned Abounce has never returned to their house.

“He has never called. His son turned one; no call, no text message to say happy birthday. I’m not even asking him to contact me. We no dey the same path again, but your gift dey my hand.

“I even dropped a message for his family members because I dreaded this moment when my child would wake up one day and say where my daddy is. And we got to that stage. I was shaken”.

Even after their divorce, the actress spoke highly of her ex-husband, describing him as someone with a kind heart, which was a significant factor in her decision to marry him. She also acknowledged that the challenges they faced during their marriage were not insurmountable, yet ultimately led to their divorce.
