Emergency responders successfully rescued a petrol attendant who fell into an underground petrol reservoir at Con Oil Petrol Station on Capitol Road in the Agege area of Lagos State on Tuesday.
Additionally, during the rescue operation, a Lagos State Fire Service Search and Rescue Officer also fell into the reservoir but was safely brought out.
An eyewitness reported that the incident occurred around 6 p.m. yesterday. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed the incident.
Oke-Osanyitolu stated that upon arrival at the scene, it was found that a worker at the filling station fell into the underground petrol tank while attempting to check the fuel level.
During the rescue operation, a Lagos State Fire Service Search and Rescue Officer slipped and fell into the underground petrol tank while rescuing the initial victim.
Fortunately, both the rescued victim and the Search and Rescue Officer were successfully retrieved from the tank. Thankfully, there were no fatalities reported.
Officials from Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) provided immediate medical assistance to stabilize the victims before transporting them to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further treatment.
