The Association of Local Governments Of Nigeria (ALGON) has expressed worry over the possibility of all the Local Governments in the country being able to pay the proposed #62,000 proposed as minimum wage.
ALGON National President, Aminu Muazu-Maifata, stated this on Thursday on Channels Television’s Business Morning segment of the Sunrise Daily breakfast programme.
Muazu-Maifata said that the funds received from the federal account could not pay the previous #30,000 as minimum wage, not to talk of #62,000.
He explained that some local governments in the country are still paying their workers #18,000 and now the federal government through the recommendations of the tripartite committee is planning on #62,000.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Labor Congress and Trade Union Congress who are the front runners of the negotiation are insisting on not accepting anything short of the,#250,000 they proposed.
Muazu-Maifata said an affordable minimum wage should be set and not something unsustainable.
