A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emmanuel Odigie, has expressed doubt regarding the ability of President Bola Tinubu’s influence to secure victory for the party in the upcoming 2024 Governorship election in Edo State.

Odigie Expressly declared his support for Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the next governor of Edo State.

Odigie, who is also a member of the Edo Integrity Group, highlighted Ighodalo’s exceptional qualities among all the candidates vying for the governorship position.

While acknowledging Tinubu’s commendable leadership in safeguarding the nation from economic challenges akin to Venezuela, he emphasized that the APC would face significant hurdles in clinching victory in the gubernatorial race.

“We are all aware that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently joined the fray, and the current situation is not of his making. Without his courageous leadership, Nigeria may have spiraled downwards, mirroring the state of Venezuela.

However, are the people of Edo State happy? Are they satisfied with the federal government’s performance? The answer is no. The cost of living is high, fuel prices are exorbitant at N850, and the unfavorable exchange rate exacerbates the situation.

On a state level, while the workers are content with Godwin Obaseki’s implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage, the lack of internal democracy within the APC poses a significant challenge to achieving good governance,” Odigie explained.

Remaining pragmatic, Odigie professed his unwavering belief in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while also emphasizing the importance of power rotation, fairness, and equity. He firmly stated that the forthcoming election should be decided based on the candidates’ capabilities.

In his opinion, Asue Ighodalo stands out as the preferred candidate, as he possesses the qualities necessary to bring about positive change in Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.

While acknowledging the merits of Olumide Akpata, Odigie stressed the need to prevent a continuation of governance from a single local government in Edo South for another term.
