Eid-el-Kabir, a significant Islamic festival, is observed by Muslims around the world on the 10th day of the Hijri month of Dhual-Hijjah. On June 16, 2024, President Bola Tinubu participated in the Eid prayers at Dodan Barracks in Ikoyi, Lagos, joining fellow Muslims to celebrate this important occasion.
President Tinubu arrived at the prayer ground at 8:55 am, accompanied by several high-ranking officials. These included the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat; former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola; businessman Aliko Dangote; and Senator Gbenga Ashafa. The presence of such notable figures highlighted the event’s importance.
In his message to the Muslim community, President Tinubu emphasized the deeper meaning of Eid-el-Kabir, which centers on sacrifice, faith, and obedience to God. He urged Nigerians to reflect on these values during the celebration.
“The President recognizes the sacrifices that Nigerians have made over the past year,” stated presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale. “As the administration strives to place the nation on a solid path of growth and development, the sacrifices and expectations of the citizens are beginning to yield positive results. The economy is strengthening, and critical sectors are regaining their vibrancy.”
President Tinubu also called on Nigerians to pray for the nation’s ongoing peace and stability. He stressed the importance of working together to promote unity, peace, and progress.
In addition, he reassured the public that his administration is committed to improving their physical, social, and economic security. The President reiterated his dedication to this mission, emphasizing that it remains a top priority for his government.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a time when Muslims around the globe commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. This festival is marked by special prayers, feasts, and acts of charity. For Nigerian Muslims, it is a time to come together, celebrate, and reflect on their faith and community.
By participating in the Eid prayers, President Tinubu not only celebrated the festival but also showed solidarity with the Muslim community.
