Delta’s Police Command has initiated a manhunt for a fugitive father accused of murdering his six-year-old daughter in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

SP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesman, named the suspect as Stanley Ovemureye to journalists in Warri on Sunday.

According to Edafe, the suspect, who is still at large, reportedly bashed his daughter Abigail’s head against the wall multiple times before she died.

He stated that the event took place on Saturday, and that the suspect’s brother reported it to the Agbarho police division.

“The command is aware of the gruesome murder of one Abigail Stanley, aged 6, allegedly killed by her father, Ovemureye.

“The sad incident which occurred on Saturday was reported at the division by the brother of the fleeing suspect.

“The Divisional Police Officer on receipt of the complaint, detailed operatives to the scene at Uvvama New Layout,  Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

“The police operatives recovered the corpse of the little child whose head was smashed several times on the wall, and deposited it at the mortuary.

“The father who is the principal suspect is currently at large,” Edafe said.

He stated that the command’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Olufemi Abaniwonda, has launched a massive manhunt for the fleeing culprit.

Edafe stated that the CP had guaranteed the people that the culprit would be arrested and justice served.

He, however, stated that the CP had requested anybody with relevant information that might lead to the arrest of the culprit to phone the control room number at 0803684974 or report to the local police station.
