In a recent statement, former lawmaker Shehu Sani shed light on the alleged mistreatment of the Southern Kaduna people during the eight-year tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Sani accused El-Rufai of relegating the Southern Kaduna people to the sidelines, comparing it to being confined to a “boys’ quarters” while the affairs of the state proceeded without their involvement.

Speaking at a Sallah dinner celebration, Sani reacted to reports of N423 billion funds purportedly diverted during El-Rufai’s administration.

He lamented that while the Southern Kaduna people stood up against the government’s actions, other zones within the state remained silent, even as their own resources were allegedly being misappropriated by El-Rufai and his associates.

Sani called on the people to support the State House of Assembly’s Ad’hoc committee, which is tasked with investigating the alleged diversion of funds. He emphasized the need for the committee to remain focused and conduct a thorough inquiry, urging the public to stand against anyone opposing the investigation.

Highlighting the lack of transparency, Sani questioned whether the people were aware that their money was being stolen prior to the ongoing investigation.

Despite the massive loans obtained by the government, he pointed out that houses were demolished, thousands of civil servants were laid off, and the people of Kaduna State endured severe hardships.

Sani emphasized that the fight against corruption and injustice was not solely the responsibility of the Kaduna State government but a collective effort that required the support and participation of all citizens.

This revelation by Shehu Sani sheds new light on the alleged neglect and corruption that occurred during El-Rufai’s administration, particularly in relation to the Southern Kaduna people.

The call for accountability and justice serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and fairness in governance.
