President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of a value system shift for Nigeria’s progress.
Speaking in Lagos on Monday evening, he addressed a delegation from the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, including Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, who visited to celebrate Eid-el Kabir with him.
“Facing economic challenges head-on is crucial,” Tinubu stated. “As mentioned in my speech, regardless of the difficulties, I remain committed to Nigeria.”
He urged citizens to change their perspectives to overcome current challenges.
Tinubu highlighted the necessity for citizens to move away from a rent-seeking mentality and contribute more productively to the economy, condemning actions like smuggling and economic sabotage.
“Why should people steal rail tracks and electric cables, sabotaging the economy? We must embrace the campaign to change our value system and mindset about our country,” he asserted.
The President praised the National Assembly’s leadership for their support, which has led to significant developments.
“I am proud to have the best partners in the National Assembly. We must be inclusive in our efforts to satisfy our people.
The challenges are daunting, but we cannot shy away from ensuring the country’s survival,” he stated.
Acknowledging the existing hardships, Tinubu reassured the nation of his commitment to improvement.
“Yes, there is poverty and suffering. We are not alone in this, but we must address our challenges.
We need to eliminate banditry and terrorism so farmers can bring food from the farmland. Good roads are essential to prevent food loss,” he explained.
After the meeting, Akpabio told journalists that the visit was to honor the President and appreciate his leadership in the first year of his administration.
He added that the National Assembly aims to amend existing legislations to enhance the nation’s ease of doing business.
