Local authorities in Akure apprehended a man pretending to be mentally ill, revealing him as a kidnapper operating in the area.

The arrest took place in the early morning near Oba Adesida Road, drawing significant attention from residents and passersby.

The suspect, whose identity has yet to be disclosed by the police, had been seen wandering the streets in tattered clothing and behaving erratically for several weeks.

His convincing portrayal of a mentally disturbed individual allowed him to move freely without arousing suspicion.

However, a series of recent disappearances in the neighborhood prompted the police to investigate the matter more closely.

Witnesses described a tense scene as officers moved in to arrest the suspect. “It was surreal,” said Adebola Akinduro, a local shop owner.

“One moment, he was just this harmless madman we all felt sorry for, and the next, the police had him on the ground in handcuffs.”

Upon his arrest, the man was found with items linking him to the abductions, including personal belongings of the missing children and tools used to restrain them.

The police are now working to locate the victims, hoping to reunite them with their families as soon as possible.

For now, the city of Akure can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing a dangerous individual has been taken off the streets, thanks to the diligent work of local law enforcement.
