Tragedy struck the quiet community of Itoko last night when a 70-year-old woman, known locally as Iya Elewa, was brutally murdered in her home.
The elderly money collector was discovered in a pool of blood by her neighbors early this morning, sparking outrage and fear among the residents.
According to local sources, Iya Elewa was a well-known figure in the community, collecting money from various small-scale traders and businesses. She was last seen yesterday evening, going about her usual rounds.
Neighbors became concerned when they noticed that her house remained unusually quiet late into the night. Their worst fears were confirmed when they entered her home around 7 AM and found her lifeless body in her bedroom, surrounded by signs of a violent struggle.
Her collection bag, known to contain a significant amount of cash, was missing.
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the assailant or assailants may have targeted her specifically for the money she collected daily.
The tragic death of Iya Elewa has left the Itoko community in shock. Many residents described her as a kind and hardworking woman who played a crucial role in the local economy.
“She didn’t deserve to die this way. We are all heartbroken and scared,” said one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous.
As the investigation continues, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Authorities.
