Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent comment suggesting that Nigeria is not the only country facing economic hardships.
In a social media post, Obi emphasized the need for the government to focus on providing concrete solutions to Nigeria’s unique problems instead of comparing it to other nations.
President Tinubu made the comment while receiving a delegation from the National Assembly during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The statement has sparked controversy, particularly among opposition leaders, and has been met with heavy criticism on social media.
Obi expressed his disappointment, stating, “It is disheartening to hear those in charge, who were hired to address our problems, make statements like ‘we are not the only ones struggling with poverty and hunger.'” He emphasized the importance of hearing a thorough plan of action to tackle Nigeria’s specific struggles, rather than downplaying the circumstances by making comparisons.
The former governor of Anambra highlighted the well-known problems that Nigeria is currently facing, including high poverty rates, unemployment, a large number of out-of-school children, insecurity, poor education quality, corruption, inadequate infrastructure and healthcare, and a significant income gap between the rich and the poor.
Obi stressed the urgent need for leadership that offers effective roadmaps to overcome these challenges.
He called for concrete solutions and a clear vision to address Nigeria’s pressing issues, acknowledging that the problems are well-known to Nigerians and require immediate action.
