A young woman was injured in a hit-and-run incident today at the Oja Oba Market. The incident occurred early this morning when a taxi driver, navigating through the crowded market area, struck the victim and fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that the taxi driver, in a rush to evade the heavy market traffic, lost control of the vehicle and hit the woman, who was crossing the road.

Bystanders immediately rushed to her aid, while others attempted to apprehend the driver, who sped off before anyone could get a clear look at the taxi’s license plate.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Jumoke Babalola, sustained injuries to her legs and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Her condition is reported to be stable, though she remains under observation.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. They are appealing to anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to come forward.

The police have also promised to increase patrols in the market area to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Market traders and residents expressed their concern over the frequency of reckless driving in the area. “This market is always crowded, and drivers need to be more careful,” said Alhaja Kadijat, a local shop owner. “We hope the authorities will take stricter measures to ensure our safety.”
