Renowned educationist, Mrs Yetunde Kamson, has called for a comprehensive revamp of Nigeria’s education system, citing the need for innovative approaches to teaching, robust teacher training, and equitable resource distribution. Drawing inspiration from successful education reforms in Finland and South Korea, Mrs Kamson emphasized the importance of prioritizing education to achieve significant improvements in educational outcomes.

While acknowledging the sector’s strengths, including a growing emphasis on education and a vibrant community of educators and learners, Mrs Kamson highlighted pressing challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited access to quality education in rural areas, inconsistent policies, and teacher training issues. She also stressed the need for better technology integration, improved funding, and addressing the disparity in educational quality between urban and rural areas.

Mrs Kamson advocated for robust initiatives and reforms to address regional disparities in educational access, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG4. She emphasized the importance of community engagement, improved rural educational infrastructure, enhanced teacher training, increased investment, and inclusive policies.

The educationist also stressed the need for promoting gender equality and inclusivity in education, implementing gender-sensitive policies, and increasing access for girls. She highlighted the importance of vocational and technical education, integrating it into the mainstream curriculum, expanding training opportunities, strengthening industry partnerships, and recognizing its value.

Mrs Kamson urged the government, private sector, and civil society to work together to address these critical issues, emphasizing that united efforts can help Nigeria overcome its educational challenges and create a brighter future for its learners. Her call to action echoes the need for a transformative overhaul of Nigeria’s education system, prioritizing innovative approaches, equity, and inclusivity to ensure quality education for all.
