A staggering number of over ten thousand (10,000) loyalists from various political parties, including the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State.
This significant defection occurred during Governor Hyacinth Alia’s extensive “thank you” tour, which aimed to express gratitude to the people for their unwavering support in the 2023 general election.
The momentous gatherings took place in Katsina-Ala, Kwande/Ushongo, and Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituencies of Benue North-east senatorial zone.
Governor Alia, addressing the enthusiastic crowds at Katsina-Ala Akumen Atongo township stadium as well as LGEA Primary Schools in Kwande and Vandeikya town, sincerely acknowledged the overwhelming support he received during the recent election.
Governor Alia, committed to the development of the region, announced ambitious plans to construct thirteen (13) new roads across the seven (7) local government areas of the Senatorial district.
Moreover, he expressed his determination to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by armed herdsmen attacks, ensuring their safe return to their ancestral lands for unhindered farming activities.
Expressing grave concern for the Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo Federal Constituency, the heartland of yam production in the country, Governor Alia acknowledged the devastating impact of armed bandit attacks.
He emphasized that ensuring security is not solely the responsibility of the government and urged all citizens to collaborate in safeguarding the state from such attacks.
Governor Alia also encouraged the formation of cooperative societies, enabling the people to receive vital agricultural inputs and other benefits from his administration, empowering them to become self-reliant.
Addressing speculations about foreign loans, the governor refuted claims of substantial borrowing from international financial institutions for infrastructure projects in the state.
He further announced the awarded contract for the construction of the Sankera-Chito-Vaase road, a crucial step in combating the worsening insecurity plaguing the area.
In addition, Governor Alia disclosed his communication with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seeking assistance in expanding the state’s road network in the Sankera region.
As a result, President Tinubu approved the construction of the Katsina-Ala Head Bridge-Hausa Quarters/Victory Bible Church and the Wukari Junction; the Zaki-Biam Yam Market-Iwar Ior-Y Junction roads, highlighting the President’s genuine commitment to the state’s development.
The people of Benue State are urged to remain patient as these remarkable initiatives unfold, promising a brighter future through comprehensive infrastructure projects and enhanced security measures.
