In a significant development, it appears that the ongoing crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State following the 2023 general elections might soon come to an end. Aggrieved stakeholders gathered in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for a reconciliation meeting and to chart a way forward.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State expressed his dissatisfaction with the loss of Plateau State to the PDP and pledged unwavering support to ensure that the APC regains control of the Plateau in 2027.

The internal crisis within the Plateau APC emerged after the general elections, as different interest groups emerged to challenge the party due to political differences and vested interests in the state ministerial slot.

Recognizing the urgency to address these issues, the party’s leader, former Governor Simon Lalong, called for a meeting with stakeholders outside the state. The meeting aimed to address grievances and concerns raised by various members.

Former Governor Lalong emphasized the importance of the reconciliation engagement in repositioning the party for future success.

To facilitate this, a reconciliation committee was established, led by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase. The committee engaged with aggrieved stakeholders to understand their concerns and hold discussions.

Senator Lalong expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the Idris Wase-led reconciliation committee, which successfully reached out to critical stakeholders and aggregated their concerns, leading to the convening of the meeting.

As the party’s leader, Senator Lalong took responsibility for any mistakes he may have made and expressed his willingness to apologize to pave the way for genuine reconciliation. This reconciliation is vital for the party’s recovery from its losses in the recent elections.

Addressing the stakeholders, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, explained that they agreed to host the reconciliation meeting due to the strong bond between the two states. It is also the responsibility of the Nasarawa APC to contribute to strengthening their Plateau counterparts.

Governor Sule and the Nasarawa APC family expressed their disappointment with the loss of Plateau State and assured their full support in reclaiming the state in 2027.

Deputy Governor Akabe appealed to the stakeholders to put aside their differences, forgive one another, and work towards the unity of the party.
