The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it does not follow any zoning rules and has not agreed to any zoning deals with other political parties for the 2025 governorship election. The APC believes in giving every member the chance to run for the party’s ticket, no matter where they come from.
Valentine Iyke-Oliobi, the party’s Publicity Secretary, said this in response to remarks made by Pope Amaefuna, an APC member who suggested that the party should only select a candidate from the southern zone to avoid disrupting an existing zoning system.
Iyke-Oliobi emphasized that the APC’s candidate for the 2025 governorship will be chosen by a popular vote from party members or elected delegates, depending on the primary method decided. He also mentioned that Amaefuna is not recognized by the Anambra APC, as he is not a registered member in any of the state’s 326 wards or known at the state level.
The APC firmly rejected Amaefuna’s claims, calling them baseless and a result of hallucination. The party assured that all members aspiring for the 2025 governorship will have an equal chance and a fair process. It was noted that the APC has always allowed open competition for its positions, as seen in the last presidential primary.
The 2025 governorship candidate will be selected through a popular vote or delegates, depending on the final decision after all stakeholders reach a consensus. The APC, being a progressive party, will not limit the democratic process to any specific region of the state.
Finally, the APC urged those causing confusion within the party to stop. Members are encouraged to adopt the party’s principles and work hard to gain acceptance from other members rather than focusing on zoning, which is not a part of the APC’s system.
