The Nasarawa State government wants everyone to know that there are no confirmed cholera cases in the state, despite rumors about it in some local government areas. During a press conference in Akwanga, the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Gaza Shekwonugaza Gwamna, mentioned that there are 19 suspected cases in Kokona and 10 in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government areas. However, none of these cases have been confirmed as cholera.
Dr. Gwamna explained that there was one suspected case that resulted in a death in Nasarawa Eggon, but it turned out to be diarrhea and not cholera. Additionally, he shared that the state is well-prepared to handle any potential outbreaks. Disease surveillance officers at the state, community, and ward levels are actively working to gather detailed information about the situation in various communities.
Dr. Gwamna also noted that supplies for preventing the spread of the disease are available in many areas of the state. However, some remote or high-risk areas might experience delays in receiving these supplies. He emphasized that the state government, led by Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule, is very serious about health issues and is committed to ensuring the well-being of all residents.
“We are managing the situation effectively, and we urge everyone to report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility,” he stated. Dr. Gwamna also commended the efforts of healthcare workers, acknowledging their hard work and dedication to serving the people of Nasarawa State. He reassured residents that the state government is dedicated to providing quality healthcare services and ensuring everyone’s health and safety.
