The Edo State chapter of the Labour Party has criticized the ‘Obidient’ movement for endorsing Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming state election.
According to Sam Uruopa, the Party’s Publicity Secretary, “It is absurd that the Obidient movement is backing Okpebholo, just as they claimed support for Asue Ighodalo previously. The Obidient movement has always been aligned with the Labour Party and its core members.
They seem to have forgotten how the party was denied access to the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium before the presidential election. How can they now claim allegiance to Obidient and support Okpebholo or Ighodalo? To me, this shows a lack of direction and commitment. They cannot profess to be part of the Obidient movement while opposing the Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata.”

The “Obidient” movement in Edo recently declared their support for the APC and its candidate. Earlier, a different faction of the movement had pledged support to Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Members from the Edo South Senatorial District stated that they are backing Okpebholo due to his strong connections with the community.
