Former Member of the House of Representatives, Mark Gbillah, has urged lawmakers to release the findings of their investigation into the faulty presidential jet.
Gbillah, who previously chaired the committee on crude oil theft, made this demand during an interview. He suggested that the issue with the presidential jet might be due to a lack of maintenance, emphasizing that the aircraft’s lifespan is still within acceptable limits.
Gbillah stressed the importance of transparency in this matter, stating, “I would encourage the National Assembly to make it public.
Every decision concerning this issue should be made public.” He also proposed inviting experts to provide insights on the condition of the presidential fleet and the true situation at hand.
Moreover, Gbillah criticized the idea of purchasing a new presidential jet, particularly at a time when the living conditions in the country are deteriorating.
He emphasized that Nigeria has professionals in the aviation sector who can shed light on the issue without the need for procuring a new aircraft.
He suggested that the incident during President Buhari’s trip to Paris and the subsequent cancellation of the Saudi Arabia leg of the journey may have been caused by oversight or lack of maintenance.
In conclusion, Gbillah expressed his belief that it is insensitive to consider purchasing a new aircraft given the current circumstances. He called for the investigation findings to be made public and for a focus on maintenance rather than new acquisitions.
