In a statement, Paul Ibe, the Special Adviser on Media to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, highlighted the significant changes that President Bola Tinubu has brought to Nigeria, making it almost unrecognizable.
Ibe’s remarks came in response to Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s assertion that Nigerians will no longer recognize their country after President Tinubu’s second term.
During the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja, Senator Akpabio expressed his conviction that, by the end of President Tinubu’s tenure, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nigeria as a whole will undergo such profound transformation that they will be unrecognizable to many.
He called upon Nigerians to pray for the president and remain hopeful that the challenges currently faced by the nation will soon be overcome.
Senator Akpabio further praised President Tinubu’s administration for the remarkable achievement of the Kugbo Bus Terminal, emphasizing that the appointment of Nyesom Wike as the Federal Capital Territory Minister was a perfect fit.
He commended President Tinubu for his discernment in selecting capable individuals to drive positive change.
Responding to Akpabio’s indirect endorsement of President Tinubu’s second term, Paul Ibe argued that the president’s economic policies have already rendered Nigeria unrecognizable, plunging its citizens into hardship within a short span of time. Ibe emphasized that the Nigeria handed over to President Tinubu has been left in disarray.
“It has been less than a year, but Nigeria under President Tinubu’s administration is shattered and barely recognizable,” Ibe stated on Wednesday.
These sentiments were echoed by Atiku Abubakar, the principal of Paul Ibe and former presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). On June 5, Abubakar expressed his belief that Nigeria is not functioning effectively under President Tinubu’s leadership.
He particularly criticized the fuel subsidy controversy, highlighting the apparent deception surrounding the proposal for subsidy payment in the 2024 economic draft submitted to Tinubu by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
“I want to reiterate that Nigeria is not working, and the past year has been characterized by a series of trial-and-error economic policies. Paying subsidies while concealing the truth is not something to be proud of. Nigerians deserve better than this deception,” Atiku asserted.
