The Lagos State Police Command reported the arrest of a couple on suspicion of attempting to sell their two-year-old son in order to fund travel to Canada.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the command, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the 28-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were apprehended on Tuesday in Lagos.

According to Hundeyin, the Isolo Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received information around 2:45 p.m. that the couple had visited Isolo General Hospital with the intention of selling their baby boy.

Prompt action by police operatives from the station prevented the sale, and the child, aged two, was safely rescued.

During interrogation, the couple admitted their plan to sell the child to finance the man’s journey to Canada for better opportunities. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
