Mr. Nnaghe Itam, Commissioner of the Anambra State Police Command, announced the recent arrest of 200 suspected criminals and significant recoveries over the past two months. The operations resulted in the seizure of approximately 1,644 rounds of ammunition.

The arrests included individuals involved in kidnapping, cult activities, car theft, and petty theft, reflecting a broad crackdown on criminal activities in the state.

“I have implemented strategic operational measures to ensure a swift response within 10 minutes of any reported crime,” Commissioner Itam stated. He acknowledged the support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, sister security agencies such as the State Security Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as local vigilante groups.

Encouraging community participation in crime prevention, Commissioner Itam urged Anambra residents to provide information crucial to combating crime. He emphasized ongoing engagement with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious bodies, and community leaders.

“I have initiated discussions with traditional rulers to review cultural practices that may infringe on fundamental human rights, aiming to prevent social tensions,” he added.

Commissioner Itam issued a stern warning against land grabbing, occult practices, cultism, violence, or any form of rights abuse, emphasizing that such activities would not be tolerated in Anambra State. He cautioned potential troublemakers to reconsider their actions, affirming that the police command would vehemently resist any threats to the state’s peace and security.
