In a significant development, the Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reached a unanimous decision to implement a geopolitical zoning strategy for the allocation of leadership positions within the party. This decision was announced during a caucus meeting held at the Government House in Jalingo, the state capital.

Former Nigerian ambassador to Pakistan, Idris Waziri, who addressed journalists after the meeting, revealed that the party members collectively agreed to distribute the eleven positions in a fair and equitable manner among the three geopolitical zones of the state. Notably, it was unanimously decided that the state party chairmanship position would be zoned to the central region of the state.

The primary objective of this move, as emphasized by Waziri, is to ensure fairness and justice within the party. By implementing this zoning arrangement, the PDP aims to enhance its electoral prospects both in Taraba State and across the country.

Waziri further clarified, “We have agreed to zone positions within the party in the interest of equity, fairness, and justice, so that every zone will have representation at the state level.”

“At this stage, we have only zoned the 11 offices. Some executives will be stepping down while others will remain. We will allow individuals to express their interest in contesting elections or not. Imposing candidates on anybody is not our approach.”

Under the newly implemented zoning arrangement, the central zone will secure the state party chairmanship position, while the deputy chairman position will be allocated to the northern zone and the secretary position to the southern zone.

Waziri expressed confidence in the solidarity and organizational strength of the PDP, stating, “Nobody can catch us off guard because our party is strong and well-structured. We are fortunate to have a committed and educated leader who is dedicated to the progress of not only our party but the entire state.”

He also affirmed the party’s commitment to upholding the principles of equity, fairness, and justice as enshrined in the constitution, emphasizing that the PDP in Taraba will continue to adhere to the right course.
