Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has shared that his dedication to Nigeria’s industrialization is the primary reason he doesn’t own properties outside the country.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, Dangote mentioned that he once owned a house in London but sold it in 1996.
“The reason I don’t have a house in London or America is solely because I wanted to focus on industrializing Nigeria,” Dangote said.
“I figured that if I had those houses, there would always be reasons to visit them, which would cause distractions for me. I am very passionate about the Nigerian dream.
Apart from my house in Lagos, I have another one in my home state, Kano, and a rented one in Abuja.”
Fatima Dangote, Group Executive Director of Commercial Operations, praised her father’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria.
“I have not seen anyone as hardworking as my father; sometimes I wonder how he never gives up,” she said. “I wish we had a few more men like my father in Nigeria; the country would be a better place.”
