In a gathering to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai made a strong statement against those advocating for the division of Nigeria. Buratai firmly emphasized that Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty should never be compromised for political reasons, dismissing secessionists as mere dreamers.
Speaking at the event held in Kuta, Osun state, Buratai expressed his unwavering belief in the indivisibility of Nigeria. He boldly stated, “Nigeria is one, unless you remove those people who are agitating, they should drift to the Atlantic. We will remain one Nigeria. Anybody who wants to leave Nigeria should carry the part of the land and take it to the Atlantic, not within the Nigeria territory. It is very clear with the level of integration.”
Highlighting the multicultural nature of Nigeria, Buratai pointed out that there are many Hausas in Yoruba land and many Yoruba and Igbo in the north. He urged people not to let politics cloud their sense of unity and sovereignty, drawing on the bitter experiences of the civil war as a reminder of the importance of national unity.
Buratai called on peace-loving Nigerians to prioritize development and unity, not just in words but in action. He stressed the need for true development and a collective focus on advancing the nation.
