Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bayonle Kafar Sulaiman as the new head of the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB).
This move is part of IGP Egbetokun’s ongoing effort to tackle the problems of pipeline vandalism and oil theft. He urges everyone involved in the oil industry, as well as concerned Nigerians, to cooperate with the police and other security forces. By working together and sharing trustworthy information, they can help stop these crimes and reveal any plans that contribute to such illegal activities.
The new commander, DCP Sulaiman, has a proven track record in similar operations. He was previously the Squadron Commander of the Police Mobile Force 20 in Lagos. Now, as the leader of the IGP-STFPIB, his mission is to combat illegal activities in the petroleum sector, such as oil theft, illegal bunkering, and pipeline vandalism.
The Inspector General of Police has spoken out strongly against these illegal activities, highlighting the severe threats they pose to the environment, economy, and energy security. Oil theft and pipeline vandalism not only cause huge financial losses but also lead to environmental disasters, including oil spills and pollution, which destroy natural habitats.
The IGP has instructed Commander Sulaiman to take a firm stand and ensure those responsible are prosecuted. He must use all available resources to prevent economic sabotage in Nigeria’s oil sector, both upstream and downstream.
The IGP once again calls on all stakeholders in the oil industry and concerned Nigerians to collaborate with the police and other security agencies. By working together and sharing credible intelligence, they can put an end to these crimes and protect the country’s resources.
