Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted claims that he proposed a minimum wage of N80,000 for workers in the state and local government areas. The denial comes in response to reports circulating online that alleged the governor’s commitment to pay the said amount.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the governor’s office dismissed these reports as unverified claims.

The statement emphasized the importance of addressing the misinformation to prevent any misconceptions, particularly among civil servants in the state.

“The Rivers State Government has taken note of the circulating claims on an online media platform, suggesting that Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has proposed a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state and local government areas.

We would typically refrain from responding to such false news, but we feel the need to clarify the situation to avoid any misunderstandings among the public, especially our dedicated civil servants.”

The statement further clarified that the claims made by Newsweekng.com, titled “Breaking News: Governor Fubara Proposes N80,000 Minimum Wage,” are completely untrue and misleading.

The general public, particularly civil servants in the state, are urged to disregard these false claims from the online media platform. The Rivers State Government assures that its official position on the issue will be communicated in due course, ensuring transparency and accuracy in the dissemination of information.

As discussions surrounding the minimum wage have been concluded, Governor Fubara’s denial sheds light on the importance of verifying information and avoiding the spread of false claims.
