In a momentous gesture, former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the labour unions for their acceptance of the newly approved minimum wage of N70,000, as endorsed by President Bola Tinubu.
In a special message addressed to the unions, Senator Kalu, who also serves as the Senate Committee Chairman on Commercialisation and Privatisation, expressed his admiration for President Tinubu’s thoughtful consideration of the welfare of Nigerian workers.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to the labour unions for reaching an agreement on the minimum wage issue. I also commend the Minister of Labour, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Chief of Staff to the President, and all other stakeholders who played significant roles in reaching this consensus with the labour unions,” Senator Kalu stated.
While Senator Kalu had initially suggested a minimum wage of N90,000, he expressed his satisfaction with the approved N70,000, recognizing it as a decent minimum wage.
Additionally, he highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years, emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring fair compensation for workers.
Senator Kalu further urged fellow Nigerians to exercise patience with President Tinubu, emphasizing that this landmark decision is indicative of his administration’s commitment to alleviating the challenges faced by the Nigerian populace during these trying times.
