The Chanchanji Chief, HRH Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya, and his son, Yusuf Tanimu, were attacked and slain on Friday night by gunmen who were thought to be bandits. When the terrible event happened, the traditional king and his son were coming back from Takum after attending a funeral.

The news was greeted with great regret by Governor Agbu Kefas, according to a press release issued by Emmanuel Bello, the governor’s senior adviser on media and digital communication. The horrific murder of the king was characterized as terrible by the governor.

Security personnel have been instructed by Governor Kefas to look into the ambush’s circumstances and track down the people who committed this horrible act. The need to prosecute all parties implicated as soon as possible was stressed by him.

Residents of Takum were urged to be calm by the governor, who assured them that every effort would be made to apprehend the offenders. Reiterating his determination to end criminality and disorder in the state, he highlighted the robust security measures put in place by his government.

Along with offering his sympathies, Dr. Kefas urged the residents of Takum and Chanchanji to strive for peaceful cohabitation. He promised them that he and his associates would keep working to protect the state.

This is the third traditional ruler in Taraba State to be killed by suspected bandits this year; the other two were Sansani and Usmanu chiefs.
