The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rains across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
In its weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet predicted thunderstorms on Sunday morning in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Kaduna, Gombe, and Yobe States. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to spread across the entire northern region.
The North Central region will experience rains in the morning, with moderate thunderstorms and rains anticipated in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue, and Kogi States. Intermittent rains are expected over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States during the morning hours.
In the afternoon and evening, intermittent rains are likely over parts of Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.
For Monday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms with rains over parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba, and Katsina States. Moderate thunderstorms are expected later in the day over parts of Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Zamfara, Yobe, Adamawa, and Katsina States.
The Federal Capital Territory and Plateau States will experience morning rains, with moderate thunderstorms and rains anticipated later in the day over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Kogi States.
Intermittent rains are expected over parts of Edo, Rivers, and Delta States, with a cloudy atmosphere prevailing over the remaining southern states. Later in the day, moderate to intermittent rains are expected over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers States.
On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms with rains are predicted over parts of Yobe, Adamawa, Borno, and Taraba States, with thunderstorms expected to cover the entire northern region later in the day.
The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Kwara States will experience morning rains, with cloudy skies over the remaining states. In the afternoon and evening, intermittent rains are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger States.
Morning rains are predicted over parts of Edo, Delta, Imo, and Anambra States, with cloudy skies over the remaining southern region. Later in the day, intermittent rains are expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa States.
NiMet advised the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. Residents are urged to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities resulting from downpours.
