Mr. Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), expressed profound sorrow upon the death of Ekene Abubakar Adams, a committed member of the Labour Party and the Representative for Kaduna State in the House of Representatives. Describing the day as “sombre,” Obi shared his feelings in a heartfelt statement on his social media platform.
Regrettably, Obi was unable to attend the funeral service in person due to unforeseen circumstances. Despite his efforts to secure travel arrangements from Lagos and Abuja, he found himself without viable options, including a failed attempt to use the train. Consequently, he appointed his aide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, to attend the burial on his behalf, while he participated remotely via Zoom.
In his message, Obi conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased, stating, “Yesterday was a sombre day for me as I mourned the passing of my younger brother, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams.”
He expressed his gratitude for the officiating clergy, including Minister Rev. Father Okewu and Rev. Father Gajere, for their compassionate service and thoughtful sermon during the ceremony.
Obi also acknowledged the presence of fellow members of the House of Representatives, particularly Hon. Amos Gwamnan Magaji, who assured that the noble initiatives initiated by Adams would be completed.
He extended his thanks to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for sending a representative and recognized the contributions of several other attendees, including Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, Hon. Donatus Mathew Kuzalo, Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyricus Umeah, and Hon. Chijioke Okereke.
Concluding his statement, Obi prayed for God to grant eternal rest to the departed and comfort his family, constituents, and the people of Kaduna State in this time of irreplaceable loss.
