Dr. Nasir Idris, the Governor of Kebbi State, generously donated N50 million to Command Science Secondary School for Girls in Goru, Kebbi State. This announcement was made during the school’s graduation ceremony on Saturday. Dr. Idris emphasized that this donation was aimed at addressing the school’s immediate challenges to create a better learning environment for both students and teachers.
The Governor took a thorough look at the school’s infrastructure and assured the school authorities that his administration would assist in renovating some of the existing buildings. He stressed that education should be seen as a collective effort, not just a responsibility of the government.
Dr. Idris highlighted the importance of community involvement in education, saying, “Education is everyone’s duty, not just the government’s. Parents need to participate for their children’s and wards’ benefit.”
Noticing the small number of students at the school, the Governor promised to collaborate with the 21 Sole Administrators of the state to sponsor about 60 students to enroll, thereby increasing the school’s intake.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to advancing the education sector in Kebbi State, stating, “We are providing free education. We have covered the costs for NECO and WAEC exams, allocated N2 billion for students in tertiary institutions, and spent N723 million to support our students studying abroad in India, Egypt, and Cyprus.”
In total, Dr. Idris mentioned that his administration has invested over N10 billion in the education sector within just one year.
The school’s Commandant, Major B. Fatai, expressed deep gratitude for the Governor’s attendance at the graduation ceremony. He also hoped that the Governor would help in mobilizing more admissions from the 21 Local Government Areas to boost the school’s student population.
