The Justice Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has issued a call to Nigerian youths, urging them to reconsider their plans for a nationwide protest in response to the country’s current economic challenges.

James Faleke, the state Coordinator for the Forum, shared this counsel in a statement released by the Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Razaq Ajala, on Sunday in Lagos. Faleke, who is currently serving his fourth term in the House of Representatives as the representative for Ikeja Federal Constituency, addressed the Forum during a meeting held the previous Saturday.

He emphasized that young Nigerians should prioritize constructive dialogue and avoid any actions or statements that could lead to disturbances or disorder. In his remarks, the APC leader warned against allowing discontented individuals to manipulate the youth for their own political ends.

Faleke reflected on the consequences of the 2020 #EndSARS protests in Lagos, which he claimed were taken over by disruptive groups, resulting in tragic loss of life and extensive property damage.

“We all witnessed the devastation during the #EndSARS protests, where a legitimate call for change spiraled into chaos, leading to the loss of innocent lives and properties worth billions,” he remarked. “We must tread carefully, especially in light of events in Kenya and similar situations globally, where authentic grievances have been exploited by malevolent forces.”

As the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Faleke pointed out that some of President Bola Tinubu’s policies are beginning to yield positive results for the nation.

“President Tinubu’s administration has recently implemented a new minimum wage for civil servants that exceeds 100 percent, and has also eliminated duties on vital food items and initiated student loan payments, among other measures aimed at revitalizing the economy,” he stated.

He appealed to Nigerians to continue their support for President Tinubu as he strives to create a sustainable economic framework that benefits all citizens.

Faleke urged all APC leaders to take on the responsibility of educating and informing the public about the significance of understanding President Tinubu’s policies. He stressed the importance of patience among Nigerian youths, as they await the impact of these policies.

Reports indicate that various groups are planning to hold a nationwide protest from August 1 to August 10 to address concerns over the escalating cost of living and economic hardship.
