Former Director General of the Tinubu|Shetima 2023 presidential campaign, Alhaji Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, has stated that Islam does not prohibit taking loans, and Muslim students are free to apply for and benefit from the student loan program approved by the Federal Government. He made this assertion during a sensitization workshop organized to educate students on how to apply for student loans, held at the NUJ Secretariat in Kano.

In his remarks, Bichi emphasized that there is no verse in the Quran against taking loans. He pointed out that the issue of taking loans is discussed in the longest sura (chapter) of the holy book. “I am a Muslim, and I can tell you that Islam is not against taking loans. The longest chapter in the Quran supports taking loans; therefore, students should be wary of people who misadvise them against taking loans,” he stated.

Alhaji Sulaiman, who also served as Secretary to the State Government during former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s regime, explained that the workshop aimed to educate students, particularly those affiliated with the All Progressive Congress (APC), on how to apply for and benefit from the loan program.

Addressing the students, Yahaya Usman, Director General of the APC Students Council, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for initiating the loan program to support students in achieving their academic dreams.

He highlighted that the party organized a media briefing to enlighten students from higher institutions in Kano State on the importance of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the application process.

Najmuddin Mukhtar, Director of Finance, emphasized the association’s goal to educate students from all 44 local government areas on the loan application process. The briefing included a PowerPoint presentation on how to fill out the NELFUND loan application online, ensuring students were familiar with the procedure.

Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Director of Campaign for the Gawuna Garo 2024 Kano Gubernatorial Elections, encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity to achieve their goals.

Fa’izu Alfindiki, the immediate past Council Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government, also urged students to apply for the NELFUND, praising the APC-led administration for its foresight and commitment to revitalizing the educational sector.
