Super Eagles legend John Obi Mikel has issued a warning to up-coming and current professional footballers abroad to desist from seeing Nigeria as a second option.
The former Chelsea star was very mean while taking the story of Nigeria footballers while deciding on their international future into consideration to be specific when it comes to choice.
“They want to play for England, France, whatever, and then they wait. When they reach the age of 25 or 26 and are not called up, then they call Nigeria. We should not be treated as a second option.” Mikel said.
“We have meetings with them, with their parents, and we tell them: ‘Listen to me, you are from Nigeria, your father is Nigerian, your mother is Nigerian, why wouldn’t you represent Nigeria?”
“You should be proud of your African roots, you should be proud to represent your African country.”
“If you decide to play for England, sit back and wait, but don’t wait until you’re past your prime to play for Nigeria. No, f*** off, buddy.” Mikel added.
