Before the big protest planned for August called #EndBadGovernance, a human rights lawyer named Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa is asking the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to investigate telecommunication companies. He believes these companies might be disconnecting their customers on purpose.

On Sunday, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria released a statement warning telecom companies not to try to disrupt the upcoming protest against the tough economic situation in Nigeria by cutting off internet access for unhappy citizens.

“For the last few days, some telecom companies have been disconnecting their customers for weak and unacceptable reasons. Some say it’s because of missing NIN registration or linking, while others don’t give any reason at all,” Adegboruwa said.

“This action is happening just as people are getting ready to protest against hunger, poverty, suffering, and the harsh economic policies of the Tinubu government.

“It looks like these telecom companies are trying to limit their customers’ communication to stop them from joining the protests.”

The senior lawyer stressed that the agreement between telecom companies and their customers is important and should not be broken without good reason.

“Customers should get enough information and a chance to fix any problems or mistakes. “Many people use their phone numbers for business and other important activities, including medical emergencies. “The NCC should investigate this situation and help the customers.” Adegboruwa has also contacted security agencies, asking them to protect the protesters from the Take It Back Movement next month.

The protest against the harsh economic conditions, which is becoming popular on social media, is planned to take place in all the states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in August. The organizers of this protest have remained anonymous.
